Talking about alcohol, drugs and gaming: Inspiration box for youth workers

This inspiration box supports youth workers (Special Youth Care, CLB, JAC) who want to talk to young people about alcohol, drugs or gaming. You will find numerous discussion methods, both to discuss and estimate the use or gaming, and to work on behavioral change. The methodologies are classified according to the different steps in a guidance process.

The inspiration box consists of three parts:

  1. The first part describes the various steps in a counseling process regarding substance use, supplemented with concrete discussion tips.
  2. The second part explains how behavior change proceeds according to the transtheoretical model of Prochaska and Diclemente.
  3. The third and most extensive part provides concrete conversation methods that you can use if you want to talk to young people about (suspected) substance problems or problems with gaming.
