Local Folktales: Didactic Material

Stimulate the curiosity of your students and give meaning to the world that surrounds them by making use of cultural heritage from the school environment: exciting local folktales (from the Flemish Folktale Bank of KU Leuven).

Various subject contents and attainment targets are discussed through cultural-historical sources. The students delve deeper into the what and why of folktales through reading, listening, speaking, critical thinking, collaboration and musical creation. Different skills and attitudes are practiced. You even work on the general well-being of the children. After all: those who get to know and understand the local heritage better, feel more involved with and at home in their environment.

On the basis of the different sheets, you as a teacher mix & match the different teaching methods offered in order to arrive at a lesson tailored to your students and agenda.
