Little Mouse: Multilingual book about flights

The multilingual book Little Mouse was written by a psychologist with the intention of offering support and recognition to children on the run and to help all children understand what fleeing war means. Because children often have questions when they hear things about this.

It teaches adults who read it how to respond to children's emotions and questions without giving false comfort or concealing a truth.

The book is about a little mouse who flees the war in the forest with her mother, and ends up with a family of field mice. The mouse tries to deal with the many changes, fear and loss. The field mouse in the family also sometimes has difficulty with the situation.

In four short stories you follow the departure and the first introduction, how the mice get used to each other and have their first conversations, how adults respond to questions and how Little Mouse's mother teaches her to calm down when she is anxious.

It gives you insight as a teacher when themes such as war and refugees come up in class (whether you want to introduce them yourself). And you can also give it to parents to read, possibly in another language. In this way, they also gain tools to deal with their own emotions and those of their children.

There are three multilingual editions with languages from different conflict areas:

  • Dutch with Polish, Ukrainian and Russian;
  • Dutch with Arabic, French and Tigrinya;
  • Dutch with Dari, English and Pashto.
