Acidity of soft drinks and other liquids: Workshop


In this educational workshop, young people are introduced to the term acidity in chemistry. First they make their own acidity indicator based on red cabbage juice. They then use this to examine the acidity of things such as soft drinks, milk, liquid soap, etc. They also examine the effect of acid on calcareous substances (such as teeth, etc.). At the end of the workshop, the young people realize that sourness is not always about the taste, and that things that seem sweet are sometimes quite sour, with all the consequences for the teeth...
