ECO-home: Further training on request

A project about insulation and sustainable energy, consisting of an introductory lesson and two themes: insulation and light.

The introductory lesson allows students to think critically about global warming and the challenges we face as humans. By watching videos, an interactive school poster and their own prior knowledge, the children are activated to think about possible solutions to which humans can contribute.

In the theme of insulation, the children design the prototype of a NZE home. This involves investigating which materials insulate a house well (design-based and investigative learning). What is better; double or single glazing? Which material is most suitable for insulating the interior walls of a house? The students test everything within this theme.

The theme of light teaches children to use light optimally. How can we illuminate the room more with one beam of light? Should we use dark or light paint on the walls? Can you move a beam of light with a mirror? How does solar energy work? The icing on the cake is that they apply what they have learned to their prototype. In what ways can we illuminate our home sustainably?

As a teacher, you can choose to do both themes, or just one of the two. You will always need the introductory lesson of 50 minutes to introduce the theme.
