Future Teacher 3.0: The community of inquiry framework

This is a journey of Future Teacher 3.0 about 'cooperative learning'.

The community of inquiry framework is a theoretical model that has been developed for blended and online learning. At the heart of the model is the “Educational experience” and around it are the elements in circles that are important together to achieve this experience.

The basis for this model is the educational theory of constructivism. Constructivism assumes that the student builds up the knowledge himself through interaction with the environment, existing knowledge and skills, expectations and (learning) needs.

What exactly and how much a student learns from instruction, therefore, mainly depends on what the student thinks and does during the learning process. A student does not approach a learning situation blankly, but involves the knowledge and solution strategies that he already has and builds on this.

At the heart of the COI model is the “educational experience”: a deep and meaningful learning experience, for which discussion, reflection and a learning community are important elements.
