Autisme: gebruik lesmateriaal van je collega's
Niet evident: elke school komt dagelijks in aanraking met leerlingen met de diagnose autisme. Als leraar probeer je je zo goed mogelijk aan te passen, maar dat blijkt niet altijd voldoende te zijn. Breng (leven of omgaan met) autisme onder de aandacht op 2 april tijdens Wereld Autisme Dag.
Puzzelstukje
Het icoon van het ontbrekende puzzelstukje, nu universeel erkend als symbool voor autisme, werd voor het eerst omarmd door een van de eerste organisaties die werkten rond autisme. Het ontstond als een visuele representatie van de complexiteit van autisme. Hoewel decennia van onderzoek zijn gepasseerd, blijven sommige onderzoekers en ouders van kinderen met autisme autisme nog steeds beschouwen als een raadsel dat moet worden ontcijferd. Tegelijkertijd bestaat er weerstand onder een deel van de onderzoekers, ouders en volwassenen tegen het gebruik van dit icoon. Ze betwisten de suggestie dat mensen met autisme als onvolledig worden beschouwd, of dat ze in een vastgesteld beeld moeten passen. Het standpunt hierover blijft verdeeld.
KEI voor autisme
KEIvoorAutisme was de gemeenschappelijke campagne in het kader van Wereld Autisme Dag op 2 april 2024 van de Liga Autisme Vlaanderen, Participate, sterkmakers in autisme en Vlaamse Vereniging Autisme.
Het doel van de campagne: een stimulans geven aan de autismevriendelijkheid in Vlaanderen door autisme en autismevriendelijkheid op een concrete en positieve manier in de keiker, eh… kijker te zetten. Vlaanderen is immers gekend om zijn keien. Tuintjes liggen er vol van. In de historische stadscentra herinneren de straatkeien aan ons rijk verleden. En een beetje een Flandrien zoekt graag de keien op, vooral bergop. Vlaanderen telt ook heel veel autismekeien. Mensen met autisme die iets keigoed kunnen. Mensen zonder autisme die het leven keileuk maken voor iemand met autisme. Mensen die als een vuurkei de vlam ontsteken voor een warm onthaal van mensen wiens brein anders denkt dan het doorsneebrein. En de keikoppen die hun streven naar een autismevriendelijker samenleving maar niet willen opgeven.
Al die keien verdienen het om gezien te worden. En dat wordt - hoe kan het ook anders - letterlijk bedoeld. Naar aanleiding van Wereld Autisme Dag willen het initiatief Vlaanderen bedelven onder de keien.
