Propaganda en mediawijsheid
Beelden zijn vaak de eerste bron van informatie die ons bereiken. Ze worden verspreid via het nieuws, maar ook via sociale media. Maar zijn deze beelden wel altijd correct? Vertellen deze beelden wel altijd de waarheid?
Al eeuwenoud
Propaganda werd al gebruikt ten tijde van de Oudheid. Tegenwoordig wordt het geassocieerd met het Interbellum en totalitaire regimes, maar zelfs keizers en farao’s maakten er al gebruik van. Tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog maakte propaganda een enorme evolutie mee. Om de oorlog goed te laten verlopen werd de publieke opinie met verschillende mogelijkheden beïnvloed. De meeste leerlingen gaan het toepassen van propaganda tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog herkennen. Er werd gebruik gemaakt van verkeerde beelden om het antisemitisme aan te wakkeren.
Internet en propaganda
Maar ook de komst van het internet zorgde voor een nieuwe dimensie. Het internet heeft een grote invloed op het doelpubliek van propaganda. Het jonge publiek wordt hiermee bereikt. De propaganda die verspreid wordt via het internet onderscheidt zich door de snelheid waarmee de berichten zich vermenigvuldigen. Daarom is het een must om beelden leren te lezen en propaganda te herkennen. Het is belangrijk dat jongeren leren bewust en kritisch omgaan met de media. In een tijd waarin iedereen een journalist kan zijn door sociale media is het van belang om mediawijs te zijn en kritisch om te gaan met de bronnen die je tegenkomt.
